Sau 1 thời gian tìm kiếm và được sự hỗ trợ từ Quỹ đầu tư và phát triển tài năng bóng đá Việt Nam (PVF), Liên đoàn bóng đá Việt Nam sẽ bổ nhiệm 'phù thủy trắng' - ông Philippe Troussier làm huấn luyện viên trưởng ĐT U18 Việt Nam.
Như vậy, sau thất bại nặng nề tại giải U18 Đông Nam Á 2019 của chủ nhà U18 Việt Nam tại TP.HCM, HLV Hoàng Anh Tuấn xin từ chức huấn luyện viên trưởng và được Liên đoàn bóng đá Việt Nam chấp thuận.
Ông Philippe Troussier người Pháp, từng dẫn dắt các đội tuyển Bờ Biển Ngà, Nigeria, Qatar hay Morocco. Tuy nhiên, thành tích ấn tượng nhất của ông là quãng thời gian nắm ĐT Nam Phi tranh tài tại World Cup 1998 và đặc biệt là khi dẫn dắt ĐT Nhật Bản dự World Cup 2002.
